Jane Jacobs Medal – Bette Midler
The Jane Jacobs Medal is awarded by the Rockefeller Foundation every year to leading urbanists whose work embodies the values and methods introduced by the great scholar and West Village resident. The New York Restoration Project, a non-profit founded by Bette Midler nearly 20 years ago, has rescued scores of community gardens around the city and is the private side of the Million Trees initiative in the city. NYRP was founded on the simple principle of picking up trash in public parks, yet their efforts have grown to effect countless lives in the city. Not bad.
Jane Jacobs Medal honoree Ian Marvy is featured in the other film we created for this project.
